Finding things to do Myrtle Beach with teenagers can take a little extra planning. Teens often want more than a quiet day by the pool. They want activities that feel active, look great in photos and videos, and give them something exciting to talk about afterward.
Fortunately, the Myrtle Beach area offers plenty of ways to add adventure to a family vacation. From getting out on the ocean to exploring the coast, families can choose experiences that keep teenagers involved while still being enjoyable for parents and grandparents.
Get Off the Beach and Onto the Water
The beach may be the main attraction, but getting out on the water gives teenagers a completely different view of the Grand Strand.
An ocean-going dolphin cruise combines sightseeing with the excitement of leaving the shoreline behind. The trip itself becomes part of the experience as the boat travels through local waterways and heads toward the Atlantic Ocean.
For teens who are used to documenting trips on their phones, the changing scenery can also provide plenty of opportunities for photos and short videos. Coastal views, passing boats, open water, and the possibility of seeing dolphins create moments that feel much different from another afternoon on the sand.
Why Do Dolphin Cruises Appeal to Teenagers?
When looking for things to do Myrtle Beach with older kids, parents often need an activity that does not feel designed only for small children.
A dolphin cruise can fit that need because it is an actual coastal experience rather than a staged attraction. Teenagers can move around the boat, watch the water, enjoy the ride, and keep an eye out for wildlife.
Seeing dolphins in their natural environment can be exciting at any age. Of course, dolphins are wild animals, so sightings and behavior can never be guaranteed. That unpredictability is also part of what makes heading onto the water interesting.
Make the Experience Social-Media Friendly
Teenagers may appreciate an activity even more when there is something worth photographing.
A day on the water provides a natural backdrop for family pictures, selfies, videos, and vacation posts. Instead of trying to convince a teenager to pose at every stop, parents may find that the views do much of the work.
Encourage teens to put their phones down occasionally, too. Watching the water and scanning for wildlife can turn into a friendly competition to see who spots something first.
What Do Guests Say About the Experience?
Guest Lisa Ross described her dolphin tour as an experience suitable for different generations:
“A group of three of us went out to do the dolphin seeing tour. They load everybody up by groups so that went real smoothly. They take a group picture of you as you get on. The boat was clean and well maintained. There is lots of comfortable seating and lots of areas you could get up and move to the edge to get better views if you weren’t sitting on the edge. We went for a nice ride out onto the water until we found some dolphins. We spent quite a bit of time and he would turn the boat around to make sure that all sides of the boat got good views of the dolphins as they were playing, and he enticed him into more playing by making waves for them. The weather was beautiful. Part of it you can get underneath a cover where you don’t get all the direct sun and part of it You can be out right in the sun. They had snacks and beverages that you could purchase on the boat. Very friendly and knowledgeable people handling our tour. Would Definitely recommend it for people of all ages.”
Mix Adventure Into Your Myrtle Beach Vacation
The best family vacations usually include a mix of beach time, good food, relaxation, and a few experiences that everyone remembers.
When choosing things to do Myrtle Beach with teenagers, look for activities that let them participate instead of simply watch. Water activities, coastal sightseeing, outdoor attractions, and an ocean-going dolphin cruise can add the kind of adventure older kids often want.
